Aplicação de micropartículas de carvão ativado na remoção de BTEX, tetracloroeteno, metais, não-metais e corante orgânico de amostras de água contaminada

Resumen

Neste trabalho, carvão ativado micrométrico disponível comercialmente foi empregado como adsorvente para descontaminar águas subterrâneas afetadas por diversos poluentes, como BTEX (benzeno, tolueno, etilbenzeno e xilenos), tetracloroetileno (PCE) e íons metálicos tóxicos. O objetivo principal foi avaliar o potencial uso do carvão ativado micrométrico como um produto de remediação ambiental destinado a ser injetado no subsolo, formando uma bar-reira adsortiva que impede a propagação de plumas de contaminação. Foi demonstrado que o carvão ativado tem uma capacidade muito alta de adsorver BTEX e compostos clorados simultaneamente em concentrações muito altas: concentrações de carbono variando de 0,5 g L-1 a 0,75 g L-1 foram capazes de remover 100% dos contaminantes em vários casos, e a remoção de > 95% de contaminantes foi alcançada na maioria dos experimentos. Os íons metálicos foram adsorvidos apenas moderadamente na matriz de carbono, o que sugere que outras técnicas podem ser necessárias para a remoção desse tipo de contaminante das águas sub-terrâneas. Além disso, alguns testes foram realizados com azul de metileno para avaliar a capacidade do carvão ativado de adsorver moléculas orgânicas carregadas, como corantes têxteis, apresentando, mais uma vez, resultados muito promissores.
